Thanks to the many artists and community members who attended the Adams County Arts Council’s opening celebration of its annual Holiday Show on December 6. The show and artist events continue this week with Lori Nelson and Amy Svec, who will offer demonstrations on Saturday, December 14.
At 10 a.m., Lori Nelson will demonstrate her work with polymer clay. An activity that is fun for all ages, polymer clay can be sculpted in one’s home without the need for complicated processing or messy glazes. Lori’s goal is to encourage people to be creative and have fun, while creating pieces that can be functional or that make a thoughtful and unique gift. Lori has a fine arts background in sculpture and pottery.
At 1 p.m., Amy Svec will give a hands-on collage demonstration, a technique that offers the artist opportunities to explore composition through color, texture and layering, resulting in truly unique and beautiful pieces. Be prepared to participate in a collaborative piece with her or to start your own piece with the materials she has graciously offered to supply.
Other potters, sculptors and artists working in multi-media featured in the Holiday Show include Emily Shoey, Joan Lenker (painted glass and porcelain), Marie Alexandrov, Erin Brown, Anne Finucane, Robert McCloskey, Deborah Nell, Tom Rooney, Mary Smith, Linda Toomey, Debbie Westmoreland, and Marti Yeager.
Include the ACAC’s Holiday Show as one of your holiday events and shopping destinations this year. Art is a unique and thoughtful gift, and a percentage of proceeds from the show will support the ACAC. The Holiday Show will display and sell pieces throughout the month of December at the Adams County Arts Education Center, 125 S. Washington Street, Gettysburg.
